After graduating from Princeton University and receiving her MD and Masters in Public Health from Tulane University, she completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCLA Center for Health Sciences and her fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at NYU Medical Center. Dr. Roman has published widely in the area of preterm birth and is the author or co-author of over 70 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, abstracts, and book chapters. Her research interests include the prediction and prevention of spontaneous preterm birth, and she has focused in recent years on the use of omega-3 fatty acids for preventing preterm birth. Dr. Roman has been the recipient of multiple research and teaching awards. Dr. Roman was selected by her peers to be included in the “Best Doctors in America” database for 2007-2009. She lectures nationally on prediction of preterm birth and nutritional issues in pregnancy. Her areas of specialty and interest include diagnostic ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis and therapy (including chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis), prediction of preterm birth, and multiple gestations.
